Tawau - The Step Child
After the appointment of both state and national cabinets were completed Tawau once again being the biggest loser.
Tawau, the most important town in the east coast of Sabah covers both Tawau and Kalabakan parliamentaries with six state constituencies namely Sri Tanjung, Apas, Balung, Merotai, Tanjung Batu and Sebatik. All the seats were won by BN.
Tawau which is the third largest town in the state is also an important agriculture and aquaculture center. Oil Palm and Cocoa plantations made up most of the agriculture activities while boasted the most number of prawn farming. In addition to that Tawau is also the most important transit point between Sabah and East Kalimantan of Indonesia which brought about millions worth of Ringgit in barter trading.
With such an important role to play and its great contributions to the state's revenue, only one assistant minister was chosen from Tawau is rather unacceptable. Compared to other areas in Sabah which have their voices in the state cabinet and some in the national cabinet, Tawau has once again been left out from the main stream. It is no different from being treated as the step child of the state.
However, this situation has been expected. Tawau, including Kalabakan, has never had any real qualified, educated, dedicated, capable and outstanding leaders. The most it ever had was when Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh was made the Deputy Chief Minister. He however resigned siting personal problem before anything could be done to the people of Tawau. When his old friend Chong Kah Kiat was the Chief Minister he was once again invited into the state cabinet as Minister. The second opportunity too was wasted without much contributions.
There were also other assistant ministers from Tawau who were Datuk Michael Lim Yun Sang (Sri Tanjung), Datuk Dr Patawari Patawe (Merotai) and Datuk Abdul Manan Jakasa (Balung).
Datuk Michael Lim was dumped by the people of Tawau for being one of the biggest political frog who has betrayed his mentor Datuk Seri Pairin Kitingan of PBS. He not only made huge profits from the projects he lobbied but also cheated a large number of local businessmen. His debtors are still hunting for him now. He too was a disgrace for the people of Tawau.
Both Datuk Abdul Manan and Dr Patawari did not made any significant contributions to the people of Tawau before they were removed. Datuk Manan opted out during the last election while Dr Patawari was not re-appointed to his previous peosition.
It was widely understood that both Dr Patawari and Datuk Ghapur were not in good terms with Datuk Seri Musa. They were both excluded from the original list of BN candidates. However, due to last minute lobbying and political pressure, they were retained. In such a situation, there was no hope for any cabinet appointments for both of them.
Sri Tanjung state assemblyman Samson Chin Chee Tsu is PBS Vice President. He was also the DAP Member of Parliament of Tawau. He was never a choice for the people in Tawau if not because of his current associations with PBS, the BN component party. If he were to face a stronger contender during the last election, Samson would have lost. Samson is a NPM or non-performance-man.
The fact that DAP candidate Jack Cheah Nget Min or Ayam Chia managed to garner more than 3,000 votes is enough to prove that Samson did not meet the people's expectation. Should Ayam Chia had more resources he would have won handsomely.
The Member of Parliament Shim Paw Fatt is slightly better than Samson. He was lucky to win uncontested. His track of records too have not been good with little to shout about. That of course made him not qualified for any appointment.
The rest of the state assemblymen in Mohamad Kamil Kassim (Tanjung Batu), Liew Yun Fah (Merotai) and Syed Abas Syed Ali (Balung) were there due to some political connections with those in power. The too have nothing much to offer.
It is too late to regret since the people have made their choice.
Blame it on the party leaderships who are selfish and irresponsible in putting up the wrong candidates.
Blame it on the greedy candidates who use all their dirty resources to be YB.
Blame it too to the voters who have opted for 'immediate benefits' and went against their will to make the wrong guys win.
Blame it too to ourselves who have taken things for granted.
When we have bad drivers no one wants to offer them any car to drive.

Chong Kah Kiat - Shut Up and Start Working!
Congratulations to Sabah Barisan Nasional under the leadership of Datuk Seri Musa Aman which swept almost all but one parliamentary and state seat. While everyone is celebrating their victories, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) levelled accusations at other component parties, obviously Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), for causing the defeat of LDP Deputy President, Datuk Lau Ngan Siew.
Chong was quoted as saying God would know if anyone back stab LDP candidates. Chong said God would punish those who went against LDP. Such call is similar to those made by PAS leaders who promised heaven as reward in voting them. Apparent the people do not believe PAS' heaven. The people in Sabah too, do not believe that God is siding Chong or LDP.
There is no surprise as it is Chong's style all along who does not looking into himself. Chong, being a very self centered person never once admitted his own mistakes. He has the whole world to blame but himself.
The BN candidate for Sandakan Parliament Datuk Lau's defeat was long predicted. He sat on many living time bombs which exploded on the 21 March 2004.
1. Cronism
Chong Kah Kiat practices cronism which has lighted internal flame awaiting for the right time to explode. The appointment of her sister, Naomi Chong as the Wanita Chief and later made a senator did not go down well with the members.
Noami's husband, Lee Chuan Wan, was made a datuk when Chong was the Chief Minister also gave rise to dissatisfaction. Lee was wide known as a non-contributing member although he is the party vice president.
Government projects, perks and other benefits were also given to family members or friends closely related to Chong.
2. Dictatorship
Chong's style of running the party is no different from a dictator. There is hardly any opposition in the party. He doesn't even take suggestion from others, leave alone critics. Meetings are always turned into briefing sessions. Chong is the only one speaking while the rest are mere 'rubber stamp'.
Chong does not appreciate talents for fear of being toppled. He keeps a lot of blind followers and apple polishers around him. He listens more to his gossip mongers rathan his own party leaders.
Datuk Kong Hon Ming who got more popular than Chong at one time was sacked and made the party's number one enemy. Kong's name was mentioned each year during the party congress without fail.
3. Private Negotations
Till now Chong has not openly denied accusations that he benefited personally from the Kepayan and Merotai seats. LDP was originally offered the Kepayan seat but exchanged it with MCA for Merotai. The public was informed through various sources that Chong pocketed a huge amount of cash from both Kepayan and Merotai candidate.
It is not wild accusations but understandable of Chong's practice. He also benefitted from the Kota Kinabalu Car Park which saw his reluctance in making changes. His last minute stunt in renewing the Kota Kinabalu Mayor before stepping down was also questionable.
4. Chinese Interests
The majority of Chinese in Sabah believe that Chong does not favour issues affecting the community. His stand on Chinese not suitable being a Chief Minister, non-commitment of teaching of Mathematics and Science in English, Kolombong land for Chinese school and many more has caused the Chinese to turn away from LDP.
In comparison the SAPP and even PBS have done more for the Chinese community than LDP.
5. Malay Interests
The Ops Nyiah II has affected many local Malays. Chong's strong stand in tearing down illegal houses, believed to be erected by illegal immigrants, has brought about revenge during the recently concluded general election.
Chong's eagerness in showing the Federal Government that he was different from the rest of the former CMs was not well accepted especially the Malays. He received opposition even from the Malays in his own area.
6. SAPP
Chong has openly and repeatedly blamed SAPP for many issues affecting the party namely Kolombong land, Kota Kinabalu Car Park, distributing of poison pen letter, 4D Licenses and many more.
Struggling in protecting his already damaged image, Chong's explanations raised more questions than answers. Desperate, he asked his fellow party members to help defend his image but few took heed.
Many LDP members were seen openly supporting the signature campaign launched to seek pardon for SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee so that he could take part in the recent election.
7. Chong's Personality
Chong is one of the most arrogant, snobish and unfriendly party president. The way he fooled his members and the public has brought him tremendous side effects. His bad mouthing others also offended many.
The question is why Chong was not defeated instead of Lau Ngan Siew? The answer is simple, the rest of the areas where LDP men contested did not offer a better choice. The Deputy President Lau has to take take all the blames for Chong's wrongs. He was just an unfortunate victim. Probably he should just quit LDP and retire.
This is the law of karma, the law of cause and effect. Chong says he is a strong believer of Buddhism. He should check his cause first before blaming on others.

Vote For The CANDIDATE, not the party
Time to decide for our future coming this Sunday. Who to vote? Good credible candidates campaign with their track of records. Politically unknowns and opportunists hide behind the track of records of others and ask voters to vote for the party irrespective of the candidates.
Are we to fall for the tricks? Here is the simple rule. Take for example a car and a driver.
A good car gives comfort and confidence to its passengers. A bad car might caused delay. However, no matter how good the car is, it is worthless if the wrong driver is chosen. Majority of road accidents are caused by careless, irresponsible and impatient drivers. Similar scenario apply for the political sceen here.
So dear fellow Malaysians and Sabahans, go for the DRIVER instead of the car. If both the driver and the car are good then it is a bonus.

Pantun Dari Merotai
Ini Merotai punya cerita
UMNO kasi LDP terima
Pilih calon wang mesti ada
Itu orang tawar berjuta-juta
Presiden mana tidak tergoda?
Kepala samseng terus dipinta
Doktor tipu Datuk dibeli
Balak curi kereta pun curi
Buka lagi itu kedai berjudi
Karaoke ada gadis menari
Dipaksa bogel untuk ditayangi
Bikin maksiat tidak peduli
Belum menang sudah bergaya YB
Samseng ada di kanan dan kiri
Bini orang lagi ditiduri
Rakyat akan susah di hari nanti
Calon begini apa mau diundi?

Pulled Out Or Bought Out?
More cheers were added to Sabah Barisan Nasional. BN won four more state seats uncontested, namely Labuk, Klias, Pantai Manis and Sugut, when three opposition and an independent candidates withdrew their candidacy during the three-day "cooling off" period which ends Tuesday.
With Monday's uncontested victory, declared by state election officer Mohamed Mokhtar Ahmad, the BN has so far won seven parliamentary seats and eight state seats in the election uncontested.
On nomination day last Saturday, the BN won the parliamentary seats of Kinabatangan, Beluran, Tawau, Beaufort, Papar, Kalabakan and Sipitang while the state seats were Tanjong Papat, Melalap, Apas and Sekong.
Mohamed Mokhtar said an independent candidate, Aklis Sigoh, also pulled out of the race in the Nabawan state seat.
Following his withdrawal, Nabawan will now see a three-cornered fight where BN's Bobby Suan is up against Gabriel Uwing Agunsong and Simpil Andingos, both independent candidates.
Except for Pantai Manis, the other three seats won uncontested today would have seen a straight fight after nominations closed on Saturday.
Pantai Manis was to have been a three-cornered fight but another candidate, Mohd Ishak Laimudin, of Bersekutu, pulled out of the race yesterday, followed by the independent candidate today.
Today's withdrawal of candidates also saw the BN emerged the ultimate winner in the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency and the two state seats under it -- Sugut and Labuk.
According to Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, candidates had until midnight tomorrow to withdraw their candidacy.
However, those who withdrew after the nomination period, from 9am to 10am last Saturday, would have their deposits forfeited, he said. Withdrawals of candidacy are allowed under Regulation 9(1) and 11(7) of the Election Regulations (Election Conduct) 1981 which stipulates that a candidate who wish to withdraw candidacy, could do so within three days after the nomination day by filing a notice in person to the returning officer.
Sabah has 25 parliamentary and 60 state seats. With the victory, BN is now working on winning the remaining 18 parliamentary and 52 state seats.
The four BN candidates who won uncontested today are:
1. Datuk Michel Asang in Labuk (Yusof Apok of Pasok pulled out)
2. Datuk Lajim Ukin in Klias (Pasok's Matlani Sabli pulled out)
3. Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail in Pantai Manis (Mohd Ishak Laimudin of Bersekutu and independent Mohd Hashim Yusof pulled out); and
4. Datuk Surady Kayong in Sugut (Haji Wahid of Pasok pulled out).
While we congratulate the winners for winning the seats uncontested, it does not stop people from wondering if the BN opponents were actually pulled out willingly, or being threatened like what some parties have claimed. Or was there any 'sandiwara' staged by the independents and opposition candidates who were there waiting to be bought. It is not a secret that many had used general election to earn some extra money. Some were purposedly sponsored to split votes while some were waiting for the 'direct negotiation' from ruling party candidates. The Election Commission must look into the matter.
How many left till the election day are yet to be seen. It would be sad if such practices were allowed to continue. It certainly tarnishes the image of the General Election, the Election Commission and Malaysia as a whole. Don't be surprise if the number of voters turn out is low on this coming Sunday. The hanky panky carried out by the politicians and opportunists are to be blamed.

Bravo Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman
Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman has expressed disappointment over the performance of the returning officers (RO) in some states in Saturday's nomination period for the 11th general election next week.
He said the non-adherence of stated procedures had resulted in the late compilation of data relating to those contesting in the March 21 election as everything should have been settled by 1 pm if everything had gone according to plan.
Abdul Rashid had this to say when asked on the number of ROs who appeared not to have followed the specified instructions and guidelines of the EC in undertaking their task: "Plenty. In Perak, in Johor. Even in Penang and Sabah also there were those who did not follow instructions. I am completely disappointed with these people."
Speaking at a news conference at the media centre set up on the grounds of the EC headquarters here, he said the thing was that they were senior government officers and yet they seemed to have trouble in following EC instructions.
"They have been trained, given proper guidelines and so on. They have been asked to really look at the checklist at every point. Probably they got (overly) excited," he said.
He described the situation as worse than the nomination process for the previous election in 1999.
Abdul Rashid said contrary to instructions, some of the ROs chose to drive to the state EC office to forward the nomination documents.
"You can imagine the time it will take to go from Grik to Ipoh. And in Sabah, it will take a long time to drive from Kinabatangan to Kota Kinabalu, for example. So this is the kind of problem that we have, instructions which are not followed,"
He also said that the ROs had been furnished with all the necessary equipment to facilitate their task.
"But they don't want to live in this millennium, they are still in the last millennium," he said sarcastically.
When asked whether what transpired today was a taste of what would happen on polling day, Abdul Rashid answered in the negative.
"No. We are going to send lots of messages (reminders) to them," he said.
Abdul Rashid also regretted instances where ROs were reportedly not cooperative with members of the media during nomination.
He also said the EC headquarters received 36 queries from the ROs over whether or not to accept the nomination papers of would-be candidates. Since campaigning had already begun, Abdul Rashid expressed the hope that this would be conducted in a civilised manner.
He reminded all political parties to avoid provocative actions which could land them into trouble.
The EC supremo said the smooth nomination process should be replicated during polling next weekend.
As for the teams set up to oversee the campaigning process, Abdul Rashid told them to act within the confines of the law.
"I don't want them to abuse the powers accorded to them according to the law," he said, adding that they should not be overzealous in performing their duties.
Citing an example, he said they were not supposed to inspect the bases of political parties.
Abdul Rashid expressed satisfaction over the new 50-metre no-go area ruling at the nomination centres, saying that this had allowed nomination to proceed smoothly.
Meanwhile Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Senggarang State constituency, Shamsiah Rashidah Ibrahim blamed the Election Commission's (EC) "vague" regulations as the main reason for the rejection of her nomination papers.
According to her, clause 4(D) of the EC regulations on the supporter and seconder of a candidate according to the area where the candidate is standing was vague and could be interpreted in many ways.
"In Umno, we consider the area as the division and not the State or Parliamentary constituency. The regulation is very vague and I still think my party had not made any mistake," she told Bernama when contacted, here Saturday.
She said the Batu Pahat Umno and its lawyers were studying it and would not hesitate to take the matter to court if they had a case against the EC.
"We are discussing with our division head and several lawyers on the matter," she said.
Yesterday, Shamsiah's candidacy in the Senggarang State constituency within the Batu Pahat Parliamentary constituency was rejected by the EC, enabling PAS candidate Dr Mohd Ramli Mohd Kari to win uncontested in Senggarang.
The loss of the Senggarang State seat to PAS resulted in Johor BN failing to defend its 100 per cent victory in the general election since 1995.
Shamsiah also expressed regret over the different treatment given to her by the EC official as a similar problem was also encountered during the nomination process for BN candidate Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim for the Baling State seat.
"However, the EC official in Baling had relaxed the rule slightly at that time," she said.
Whatever it is candidates should take the initiative to check the nomination forms and study nomination procedures to avoid their candidacy from being rejected, Wanita Umno head Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz said.
Expressing shock and dismay over the "loss" of a safe seat (Senggarang) to the opposition, she said the rejection of the BN candidate's nomination papers could have been avoided if the candidate had been more thorough.
She said this when asked to comment on the rejection on Saturday of the nomination papers of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Candidate for Senggarang, Shamsiah Rashidah Ibrahim, as her seconder was not a registered voter in Senggarang.
Rafidah said she had a great shock when informed by the movement's executive secretary that PAS candidate Dr Mohd Ramli Md kari had been returned unopposed in Senggarang.
Rafidah said it was a test for the BN from Allah particularly when it was claimed that the BN would make a clean sweep of all seats in Johor.
"I have always said that until you take the oath, do not think you are already the YB. Everything depends on God," she said.
On the other hand PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has congratulated the Election Commission (EC) for doing a good job during nominations in the 11th general election on Saturday.
"This is a good indication of the democratic practice and I hope no undesirable incidents will occur," he told Bernama here.
Abdul Hadi, when met after delivering a ceramah (talk) at Taman Setia Jaya here Saturday night, said it was heartening that the nominations proceeded smoothly throughout the country without any breach of public order.
He said that the Opposition certainly expected the election to be conducted in a fair manner. Polling has been fixed for Sunday.
Commenting on the victory of the PAS candidate who won the Senggarang state seat unopposed, Abdul Hadi, who is Terengganu Menteri Besar, said that it had further encouraged the party to work harder to capture other states.
As at the dissolution of parliament and the respective state legislatures, Kelantan and Terengganu were under PAS control.
Dr Mohd Ramli Md Kari was declared the winner when the EC rejected the nomination papers of Shamsiah Rashidah Ibrahim of the Barisan Nasional (BN) on technicality.
Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman was right in telling the truth to the public. Thousands of people have been waiting online to see the results of the nomination but the results were never fully updated even at midnight of nomination day.
We now know the culprits, the senior government officers who thought they are good but they are not. These are some example of poor services rendered by the public servants. These are also the bunch of people who rose to the post due to connections with the powerfuls and not through qualification, experience or capabilities. They are the one who tarnished the good name of the civil service.
We also have those who thought they are in power and could take things for granted. When the nomination papers were rejected they gave silly excuses and threatened to take legal action. Go ahead and sue the Election Commission if they want to make a fool out of themselves.
Bravo Election Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman. Bravo Election Commission.

Surat Terbuka Dari Merotai
Saudara/Saudari Osabah,
Maafkan kami, Pak Lah. Maafkan Kami Datuk Seri Musa. Maafkan kami Datuk Abdul Ghapur Salleh.
Terima Kasih.

Who Earns The Solid Support?
Despite the SAPP President and Deputy President Datuk Yong Teck Lee and Datuk Tham Nyip Shen respectively, not being able to stand for the 11th General Election, the party has more to feel happy than sad.
At the close of the nomination, Shim Paw Fatt was announced the Member of Parliament for Tawau while his colleague, Datuk Raymond Tan was made the State Assemblyman for Tanjut Papat. They were joined with others similarly lucky colleagues from Barisan Nasional.
Of course it was not mere luck that they have won the seats unopposed. They have worked hard and have other factors to help them. The main reasons are that the Chinese community feel sorry for the two top leaders for not being able to lead. The signature campaign which was carried out earlier has brought about a lot of positive results. Intended independent candidates have also chosen other areas instead of facing Shim and Raymond.
This is an indication of the solid support given to them which no one could deny.
Meanwhile, looking at the other BN component party, LDP, it is breathing through its mouth. With strong challenges from all corners, LDP is not expected to perform well. In fact bookies through out the state is buying LDP scoring zero in this election. This will leave its party president nothing to brag and proud about.
That certainly serves Datuk Chong Kah Kiat well. He has no one to blame but himself. He has asked for such trouble and the trouble will not just stop here. The way Chon has mistreated the people of Sabah, misled and betrayed the Chinese, humiliated the voters in Merotai by insisting on a rejected candidate are some of his lifetime mistakes. The proud and arrogant Chong might not have realised it now, but the people will show him slowly but eventually. He will face the music soon.
Why not even a single LDP candidate won unopposed if Chong and his blind followers have claimed doing so much for the people? Why his rival party, SAPP, scored two and LDP ZERO?
The people did no wrong to Chong Kah Kiat and LDP but it was Chong Kah Kiat who wronged the people of Sabah.

Pantun Dari Merotai
Ini Merotai punya cerita
UMNO kasi LDP terima
Pilih calon wang mesti ada
Itu orang tawar berjuta-juta
Presiden mana tidak tergoda?
Kepala samseng terus dipinta
Doktor tipu Datuk dibeli
Balak curi kereta pun curi
Buka lagi itu kedai berjudi
Bikin maksiat tidak peduli
Bini orang lagi ditiduri
Calon begini apa mau undi?
Sabah BN Candidates For 2004 General Election
Here is the list announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on 11-3-2004.
Have these candidates met the criterias set or the criterias have been badly compromised? Were the people of Sabah given too much hope earlier on and dropped back to square one after the announcement?
Let the people of Sabah watch and judge.

Selfless or Selfish?
When our 5th Prime Minister took office, he pledged for more transparency, no hanky-panky, accountability and responsibility. He called for the people to work with him, not for him. He declared war against corruption. The political opportunists straight away echoed whatever the PM said as if they have been waiting for the big change.
Was there any real changes among the politicians? The truth is NO. Politicians are selfish, greedy and self centred when they are offered with benefits. If the benefits is too small to be considered, they would decline in pride by quoting their great principles of no corruption and having the people's interests should come first. If the offer is too good to be missed, they accept it quietly, even in the expense of his people and his country.
Proof? Here is one.
When the initial list of seats allocation for BN Sabah was make known, MCA was given a parliamentary seat. LDP was given 3 state seats and one parliamentary seat. But there were arguements which seen BN Chairman Datuk Seri Musa Aman met BN component party leaders separately instead of all together.
MCA was said to decline the parliment seat given because for fear that MCA Sabah might request for a Federal post in the Government, thus reducing the opportunities of their West Malaysian representatives. Their selfish reasons have prompted them requested for a state seat. The MCA was given a Malay majority seat of Merotai under the Parliamentary of Kalabakan.
Since only one seat was given to MCA, the State Liaison Chief, Datuk Edward Khoo Keok Hai insisted on representating the party even though it was not in his home town of Sandakan. He refused to give the seat to local MCA leaders who have better relationships with the voters, at least as compared to Khoo.
However, after being protested by Tawau MCA leaders, MCA negotiated with LDP for a swap with Kepayan state seats. Kepayan was initially intended for either Datuk YC Lau or Datuk Lee Chuan Wan.
During the process of negotiation, the self-claim leader of Tawau, Datuk Liew Yun Fah made monetary offer to LDP President Datuk Chong Kah Kiat. It is now an open secret that a very huge amount, which runs into millions of ringgit, was offered to both LDP and Chong personally. Liew also claimed support from his brother-in-law, Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Hj Okin.
Chong, after taking accounts of the huge benefits he was to receive, accepted the swap and proposed Liew as a candidate. In doing so, he betrayed he long time buddy, Datuk YC Lau who was one of the LDP founding members. Chong also betrayed his party members and went against his own 'principle' of clean and just policy.
When news of Liew's candidacy broke out, there were protests from both inside and outside LDP. People were shocked on how Chong could betray his own party and buddy. They were also shocked on how seats could be easily traded.
Worst, when the candidate proposed was, and known by the people as a gangster, leader of various gambling rings, boss of entertainment outlets which offer girls for sex, drugs, illegal logging and other illegal activities. UMNO members have even gone out by saying if Liew was not dropped as the candidate for Merotai they would go all out to make sure Liew loses his deposit. They even dare to risk being sacked by UMNO or BN.
Sincerely, UMNO would not mind the Malay majority seat of Merotai being given to LDP in the spirit of Barisan Nasional, considering more than half of the state seats were given to them, but it would be a big humiliation for them when they were forced to accept a known devil as their representative.
Meanwhile, despite of all the complaints from various parties, Chong went ahead and confirmed Liew's seat. The arrogant Liew has also gone ahead and published his candidacy in the local dailies, prior to the confirmation of state and federal BN leaderships. He is already acting like an elected YB.
Has BN taken careful consideration in choosing a candidate? In this case, NO. By not putting up a suitable candidate, no matter how it threatens the members, the voters would have no choice but to vote for the oppositions, or not voting at all. After all it is their rights, their future, their pride and their choice, not the minority few.

The Way Out - Tham Nyip Shen
Deputy Chief Minister-cum-Resource Development and Information Technology Minister, Datuk Nyip Shen has in January announced that he would not be contesting the Elopura constituency in the coming election.
Tham, who is Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Deputy President, said he is prepared to play a new role as Member of Parliament. It would also be unfair to Elopura voters to keep on voting for the same person when his successor might have new ideas to develop the constituency, he said.
Tham said he was not running away from Elopura but considering taking up a new role as a Member of Parliament. SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee had, in principle, accepted his decision.
Batu Sapi is the latest Sandakan parliamentary constituency under the Election Commission’s new electoral boundaries. Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) holds the Sandakan parliamentary seat, while Umno is in control of the Kinabatangan, Libaran and Beluran seats.
“The decision to allow my successor to contest the next election was not made overnight. It has been at the back of my mind for several years already.”
Tham, 45, said it took him 15 years to groom his choice of successor, thought did not mention who, but it was understood that the choice was Au Kam Wah, his political secretary. Aw is also SAPP assistant secretary general.
When seats allocation of the 11th election is almost certain, SAPP failed to lobby for the Sapi parliamentary seat. Tham is now caught with his own words and promises (wishes). He is out of his home and heading nowhere. He eventually took the noble way by opting out of the election. He was reported as saying he could still serve without governmental position.
SAPP was deeply sadden by Tham’s decision and trying hard to convince him to reconsider. There are also moves to convince Aw Kam Wah not to take up the Elopura state seat and return it back to his mentor. However, Tham was said to be very firm with his decision, which a politician seldom posses, and would not want to be change his mind.
This has come as yet another shock for the Chinese community. They have lost Yong Teck Lee (for the time being) and now Tham. Datuk Chong Kah Kiat of LDP was never in their list or either Dr Yee Moh Chai of PBS. Should there be no better decisions being derived, there would be a big political change in Sabah where Chinese is concerned.
With UMNO grabbing more than they should have, Non-Muslim bumiputera and Chinese seats are threatened and reduced. They have created a BIG time bomb which could explode at any time.

God Knows
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President, Datuk Chong Kah Kiat is desperate. After failing in fighting for more seats for his party. He is facing more trouble, now in his home town.
Datuk Wong Phin Chung has indicated that he would stand as an independent candidate against Chong in Tanjung Kapor. Unhappy Datuk Kong Hon Ming was said to have resigned from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to face Chong as another independent. UMNO members too were disappointed with Chong.
Chong is also facing problem in his own party. He was trying to fill his brother-in-law, Datuk Lee Chuan Wan in Kepayan instead of Datuk YC Lau. A move which clearly benefits only his own family members is strongly opposed by his party members. Judging from his previous move in promoting cronism in party positions and political appointments, it would not be a surprise for Chong to push for Lee instead of YC Lau.
His failure in getting any Chinese seats in Tawau also disappoints many Datuks in the area. The wind of disatisfaction is blowing strongly in LDP. He also cancelled a few function after receiving news that LDP was not allocated any seats in Tawau.
When cornered by reporters about these troubles, Chong said if there are people who back stab him, God will know. However he forgot to mention that God also knows what Chong has done to his party members and the people of Sabah. God will be fair to Chong as well as to anyone else.
Meanwhile Kong Hon Ming was said to convince Wong Phin Chung to withdraw so that Kong could face Chong one on one. Kong would like to clear his name after being a bashing goat for so many LDP function for being a betrayal. Should the battle of Chong - Kong materialise, Chong would be fighting an uphill task.
Chong is also having trouble in getting support from SAPP members due to his strong rivalry with Datuk Yong Teck Lee. Yong has openly called his members to vote for their favourite candidates, indicating clearly that they would not necessarily support BN candidate. Disappointed UMNO members who have lodge complaints on Chong too will reduce Chong's chance for victory.
God knows if Chong Kah Kiat could still win this time.
