The Magic Three - Parliament Dissolved On 4-3-2004

Pak Lah has chosen 3rd of March to make his announcement instead of the 5th March, Friday known as Magic 5. He might have been influenced by Chinese believe about 3.

Three (3) in Chinese sounds like alive (sang). There are three 3s, day three of March, 3rd Month of the year and Wednesday is the third day of the week. With such auspicious combinations, Pak Lah is expected to lead BN to win much better than the previous election under Tun Dr Mahathir.

And the news on the announcement:

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced today the dissolution of Parliament effective from tomorrow (March 4), paving the way for the country's 11th general elections.

He said the Yang di Pertuan Agong had consented to the dissolution of the 10th Parliament as provided for under Article 55 of the Federal Constitution.

"The King signed the dissolution declaration today and all states, with the exception of Sarawak, will be advised to act accordingly and to dissolve their respective state assemblies. The state assemblies should be dissolved the same day as Parliament,'' he said in a statement.

He added that the Election Commission would decide on the polling and nomination dates. Under the Malaysian system, once Parliament is dissolved by the King on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Election Commission will take over to set the date for nomination and polling. The whole process must be completed within 60 days.

For state elections to be held, the respective state legislative assemblies will also have to be dissolved by the rulers acting upon advice of the respective Mentris Besar and Chief Ministers.

For this general election, all states except for Sarawak are expected to hold the state elections at the same time as federal elections.
